LODGING

The road to McCarthy, aptly called McCarthy Road is 61 miles and starts in Chitina. It continues into the Wrangell St-Elias Park in summers only. At one time the Kennicott River bridge washed out and for many years, the only way to cross the river was by a hand-pulled tram.

Stories are legendary of those hand-pulled tram crossings. A footbridge has since replaced the tram.

McCarthy B&B
McCarthy B&B gazebo

We stayed at McCarthy B&B in a very comfortable and immaculately clean cabin. The next morning we were treated to a continental style breakfast in the gazebo.

Our neighbors were these two travelers from North Carolina on a 3 week Alaskan vacation. They had originally planned a trip to Europe but decided instead on Alaska and could not have been more pleased with their decision.

In addition to this B&B there are other lodging options such as the Kennicott Glacier Lodge, Historic Kennicott Bed and Breakfast and others. CLICK HERE to see a list with contact information.
